In today’s time choosing the right career is very important for right self growth and overall development. Not only this it also helps in having job satisfaction to the fullest which will always keep you happy in the long run. In the right career you are always ready to take the challenges and at times may also lead your team from the front. You will always be ready to work more and never feel too stressed out. This is the beauty of choosing the right career.
Below listed are few steps that can be considered while choosing a right career path for you -:
(1)Self – introspection -: Assess yourself completely. What are your strengths and weaknesses. Then consider working on your weakness. Based on your strengths, find the career option that suits you the best. For achieving this goal, a good amount of self – introspection is very important as it will take you to the right career track for you. You can also try out finding the steps in which you have done exceptionally well in the school. Now the important thing to note is that, it is not important to assess academics only, you can also see if you are good in a sport, music, art or something. You may consider choosing the career in the following domain.
(2)Self Assessment -: As earlier mentioned you have to self – introspect. You may follow a small practice here, take a pen and a notebook, jot down your strengths and weakness. And google the no. of careers you may be interested in. This will give you a broader idea about the list of careers and a small briefing about them.
(3) Note down the different careers -: Filter the careers you liked the most and write them in a notebook according to your priority list. And then look into the eligibility criteria and requirements that you need to achieve that. For e.g. if you want to be a college professor, in India you need to have a Bachelor, masters degree + PhD, or Mphil or Ugc Net exam cleared. (combination of 2 things is considered to be best. And if you have all three then nobody can stop you in achieving your goal)
(4) Think about your short – term and long – term goals -: After choosing a career, you need to think about your short term goals and long term goals. For e.g. if you choose to become a teacher, in India after your completion of senior high school you need to earn a bachelor degree. Now here if you are very sure that you want to be a psychology teacher, in your bachelors you can opt for courses like B.A hons. Psychology, BSc in psychology/applied psychology/clinical psychology. After completion of your bachelors degree of three years you need to have a Masters degree. In the above case you can opt for M.A/MSc psychology/clinical psychology/applied psychology or any other. The masters course is of two years. After that, to become a college professor you need a PhD or Ugc net exam cleared.
(5) There’s no shortcut to success -: Always remember that, you choose any field of your choice but there’s no shortcut to achieve your dream. You need to follow all the steps. You can not jump to a masters degree without having Bachelors degree. Set your daily targets, targets to achieve in week, month and year. This exercise will help you alot in making the things organized for you.
Note -: If you find it difficult to choose a career you can always go to a career counselor and can also take career tests, aptitude tests or interest tests which will ultimately help you in choosing a good career for yourself. But always choose your career wisely. Dont take any step in pressure of your friends and family. Your approach should not be like that if your friends are choosing science you will also choose science of if your parents wants you to be a doctor and you will go for it.Never do this if it is not of interest to you and make your parents understand that you why do you want to have a career in the field you choose.
