Symptoms of intra cerebral hemorrhage
Symptoms mainly depends up on the location of the bleed and the amount of brain tissue affected. The symptoms usually develop suddenly, without warning, often during activity and get worse with time. the common symptoms include
1) abnormal taste sensation
2) there is loss of conciousness. patient become lethargic stuporous, sleepy , unconcious and comatose.
3) there is difficulty in speech
4) dysphagia ( difficulty in swallowing)
5) difficulty in reading and writting
6) headache is common
7) loss of balance and coordination
8) movement changes like tremors and weakness of any body part occurs
9) nausea, vomiting seizure occur
10) there is decreased or abnormal sensation. facial paralysis is common.
11) numbness or tingling occur
12) visual disturbances like decreased vision or double vision , drooping of eyelid, uncontrollable eye movements are common.
Diagnosis and tests
1) Abnormal reflexes
2) Changes in eye movement
3) Decreased vision
4) Inability to feel sensations properly
5) Loss of movement or coordination
6) due to increased pressure in the brain, Swelling of the optic nerve takes place.
Tests may include:
a) Bleeding time
b) cerebral angiography , spiral CT scan or angiography of the head .
c) complete blood count(CBC)
d) platelet count
e) Prothrombin time (PT) or partial thromboplastin time
f) CT scan of head
g) head MRI or MRA
h) kidney function tests
i) Liver function tests
Treatment of hemorrhage
Treatment depends on the location, cause, and amount of the hemorrhage.Surgery may be needed, especially if there is bleeding in the cerebellum Medicines used may include:Anticonvulsants to control seizures Corticosteroids or diuretics to reduce swelling Painkillers may be beneficial to reduce pain. tracheal intubation is given in some patients with decreased level of consciousness or other risk of airway obstruction. IV fluids should be given to maintain fluid balance.
