Jaundice Treatment

The treatment of jaundice normally depends on the underlying problem that lead to the symptoms in the first place. When the diagnosis of the problem has been made, then the treatment of the problem can begin. Sometime the patient can be required to be hospitalized or he can take the medicine home.

The treatment can be watchful waiting in your home with totally rest.  The doctor can choose to give intravenous fluids, medication, blood transfusion and antibiotics. If the cause is any toxin or any drug, then it has to be stopped immediately.

Sometime surgical treatment can be needed. According to the underlying problem, in addition of the IV fluids, antibiotics or blood transfusion, the patient may need to get additional medicine for vomiting, nausea or pain. The patient may need also to be treated by radiation, chemotherapy and the phototherapy for the new baby born.

In addition, of the medical attention found in the hospital, the patient also has to take care of himself at home. Additional care at home can be the following. You have to make sure that you keep hydrated by drinking enough fluids. Take the medicines as the doctor has instructed. Do not use any additional herb and supplements which you do not know their side effects. You should never take alcohol until the doctor tells that it is alright. The doctor may recommend to keep away from certain foods. If it is a new baby born, then you can be asked to place the child near a well lit place.
