No Problem

Instead of saying ‘no problem’ a better way to address the situation would be to say ‘I have a couple thoughts. Let me find a solution.’ Or, ‘I can get on that right away.’

I’m Sorry

This indicates a sense of incompetence, submission, and ‘un-managerial’ attitude and work ethic. Saying I’m sorry also denotes a sense that you failed, or did not try hard enough. Instead of saying I’m sorry, try to limit your comment to ‘I understand’. Or ‘I will come up with a better way to manage this job.’

I’ll Try

This statement is an outright admission that you feel inferior to the task at hand. It also can include an inherent ‘whine’ or complaint in the statement. Both are death for a manager’s career. We don’t always feel up to the task we are given, and we may resent being asked to do extra work, but we should never let it show.

Instead of saying ‘I’ll Try’ you can affirm that you will take on the job. Saying ‘I’ll Try’ is an emotional word. Instead use a proactive word. A simple ‘yes’ is sufficient. If you have some concerns then don’t keep them to yourself or be vague. Ask if you can give the person a list of your concerns to address before starting the project.

If you really don’t know whether you can do the job then keep a positive attitude. “Sounds Interesting.’ ‘I’m up for a challenge.’ ‘I’d like to be part of this project.’

That’s Not My Job

This can limit your chances of a future promotion faster than any mistake, complaint, or chaos you may cause. There are few things in the manager’s job description that can result in a career crashing downward spiral like this phrase.

This can be a delicate situation. Sometimes we do feel that too much has been placed on our shoulders. Or maybe we are alarmed and feel the job delegated to us is above our pay grade, or worse is doomed to fail and someone is trying to pass the buck.

I Can’t

This phrase should never come out of a management candidate’s mouth. When we say ‘I can’t’ our bosses hear ‘I can’t do the job’. Or, ‘Im not able to help you do your job.’ Or, ‘You hired the wrong person.’  There is no way to positively spin this into something positive.

Sometimes you do run into a job that you are not skilled to do. Trying to do your best can be just as devastating as admitting that you cannot do the job. This requires some delicate maneuvering. Can you take a course? Can you ask for some help? Can you request more resources? Asking for help may indicate that you are over your head, without saying ‘I can’t.’

Get

There are few words in the English language that lower the IQ of the whole room like the word ‘get.’ A single word can diminish a manager’s authority. Miss Ogefere said the reports uses statistics from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which is the business information arm of the Economist Group.EIU accesses cost for everyday use items such as bread, milk and toiletries, plus utility bills and apartment rental prices.
The salaryexpectation.com reports use this as a basis, and provide additional information such as a personal tax summary for the destination country.

 

The results could prove useful in helping a would-be expat assess whether the salary they have been offered will cover any difference in the cost of living compared with home.

Miss Ogefere, 26, is a human resources professional working for a technology company. Originally from Nigeria, she currently lives in London.

She explained:

“The whole idea came about trying to solve a problem at work, where I recruit from all over the world, and I had the same problem
when I was moving to the UK.
“Around 90 per cent of the people I interviewed had no idea of the cost of living in the destination they were moving to, and that caused problems with their salary expectations.
“I’ve known someone to move based on a certain salary level and then realize the cost of living was way higher than they thought it would be.
“They ended up making the decision to move home again, which caused a lot of problems not just for the candidate but for the recruiter too.
“I wanted to come up with a product that’s very easy to use.”

 

People thinking if moving overseas can find lot of information on the internet, but many of them is often conflicting and unverified.Her website was launched earlier this summer with a view to filling the gap in the market and more than 100 reports,
which cost US$50, have been produced so far. Most customers have been planning moves to the US, Australia, India and Spain.

 A termination notice is a written official notification given when a person is fired or is laid off from the current position. The notice of termination of employment varies from tardiness, misconduct to downsizing or corporate closures.

 

There is no rule that an employee may not be fired by the employer. This can happen any time. Thus, an employer-employee relationship ends for no reason or any reason, provided the employee is not fired by the employer for reasons such as gender, race or sexual orientation that does not come under an employment contract.

 

Reasons

An employer can find any reason to issue notice of termination of employment. This may be due to poor job performance to restructuring of the company or the upper management whims. For that matter simply any reason that is not defined legally as discriminatory.

 

Actually there is no law requiring the employers to provide notice of termination. Though the legal requirement is not mandatory, it has been developed as a process to issue a notice of termination to employees for reasons.

 

When notice of termination is required

There is no requirement as The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for a company to issue notice to an employee before a lay-off or a termination.

 

In case an employee is under contract and is terminated, employer should give notice of termination of employment. In some cases, employers need to give advance notice if there is a plant closure, mass layoffs or closures of big corporate.

 

When an employee is laid-off or terminated, there are no regulations to give advance in notice to the employee by employers, unless the employee is bound by an individual contract with the employer or employees under a union agreement or some collective bargaining agreement.

 

Employers, as politeness may give termination notice to show the end of employee’s contract and this may vary with each employer. Moreover, this is not any federal requirement.

 

When notice of termination is required

Although federal laws have no such rules as written document stating the reason for an employee termination, some employers create them. The government requires the notifications that are related to termination if they are enforced by the COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Benefits Reconciliation Act) and WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act).

 

COBRA protects the health benefits continuation rights. The families and workers losing the benefits of health suddenly due to unemployment or other reasons may elect to get the benefits of group health for a time. COBRA covers an employee and his family members under the employer provided insurance and thus the employee can have the same health insurance when he secures a new employment.  Americans can enjoy this health benefit in different circumstances such as employment hour’s reduction, job loss, death, career transition, divorce and such reasons.

The WARN act also offers the workers a notice before the lay-off period. This act shields the employee’s families and employees by implementing employers with to provide notice of 60 days in advance to employees of the mass layoffs or plant closings.

A very common question is what does PS mean in a letter? It refers to Postscript. This is an afterthought coming to your mind after the completion and signing of a letter. This term is an expression that states ‘written after’.

 

Position of PS

Once you know what does PS mean in a letter, it is important to know the position of PS, where it must appear in a letter.

 

  • This is an afterthought and very much likely it will appear at the letter end.
  • Directly enter the P.S below the signature and it means you are offering additional information.
  • Very importantly, keep the P.S. short in a sentence or two.

 

A postscript refers to a passage at the letter end, following the signature. It makes sense in the letter context composed by hand or even on a typewriter, to put up an afterthought when your letter is finished, and you cannot retype or rewrite the entire thing and get the signature.

 

In a letter, “P.S.” represents post scriptum, the Latin phrase, meaning “after writing.” It reflects that the text marked with P.S was added after the completion of writing of other material, often an afterthought. It typically is seen at the letter very end, usually below the signature.

 

Afterthoughts

There are several reasons in a letter to add after thoughts and this is known as postscript in English. The need for this inclusion comes when something is recollected or remembers right before mailing the letter and there is no reason to hold the afterthought until the future communication. Moreover, if the afterthought relates to the subject of this letter, there is no point in delaying. It is better late than never and is rightly done by adding a P.S.  For instance, you happen to remember your house number has changed, though the address is the same. This is important and now the old number may not be valid, in case of return mail. So, it is important to add the P.S. stating the new number in place or the old number.

 

Adding a Personal Touch

A postscript may be included to make a formal communication with an informal touch by adding in the P.S, a hello to your family and love to kids. This reveals an existence of a personal connection with the writer to the reader. Postscripts are used occasionally in pre-printed letters to form a response and this is added as a personal note. In business communications or correspondence, the addition of P.S has no place or is really rare.

 

Cautions

Seeing a P.S. written is uncommon and it is also written as PS. however, writers who know what PS mean in a letter also should be careful in using the postscript. It may be useful and a charming or useful writing tool at times, but is irritating if it turns to be a habit. It is best to note all the points and pen it in a letter than adding it as a P.S. 3.Practice

Reading about the job is great, but you also need to get your hands a little dirty. Make yourself a lab by securing a few old computers, no-cost open source security tools, and an inexpensive wireless router. It is much better to practice in your own lab rather than at work, where you can get in trouble if something goes wrong. By purchasing a cheap router and hooking up a few old computers, you have an environment that will work for you.

4.Look Into Additional Certifications

In addition to entry level certifications, there are also advanced certifications that you can acquire. One such certification is the CISSP. Remember, in order to get a job, your resume has to pop. Internships and volunteer work can help provide you with the experience that you need to get the job that you want. You can have a great education and a resume filled with certifications, but some employers want to see that you have done the work before. Get experience to give yourself an extra edge.

 

One way to do this would be to contact a local professor in the field and ask what you can do to help him or her. You can also volunteer to work on tasks that others are not that enthusiastic about. Finally, there should be internships available that you are interested in. The great thing about internships is that they can sometimes lead to a job.

What qualifications are needed for becoming a cover supervisor?

 

To be a cover supervisor there aren’t any formal qualifications that are required.  Ultimately it is up to the employer, who is usually the head teacher, to determine what the job requires.  Some require an applicant to be a graduate.  However, that is definitely not a standard.

 

That is why it is so important for us to have a standard criteria for recruiting Cover Supervisors in a consistent way so that head teachers know what kinds of people we recruit for the position.

 

It is critical that our Cover Supervisors have the ability to demonstrate they have extensive experience working in a position of authority with secondary age children.  Ideally they will have graduate experience.  Examples of suitable experience might be working as youth leaders or sports coaches.  We will also happily consider non graduates with work experience in similar school roles.  We have employed retired police officers on a regular basis, whose experience we have discovered is a good fit.

 

What if I don’t have the experience but am a graduate?    

 

If you are a graduate without any experience but want to work in the position of cover supervisor, we recommend that you contact a local school and volunteer to get at least 4 weeks of experience.  After you have completed this, we can take a reference from the school you volunteered at as part of your recruitment process.

 

What is involved in the cover supervisor role?

 

A cover supervisor is similar to a teacher in the sense that they are in charge of managing a classroom and are in front of a classroom of children.  However, frequently it is easier defining what a cover supervisor does not do.

 

A cover supervisor doesn’t get involved in the marking, preparation or planning of the class.  Briefly put, they don’t play any part in class development beyond the specific lesson.

 

What is the salary for cover supervisors like?

These asbestos cement pipes unlike their other asbestos counter parts have not been associated with any health hazards. The asbestos cement pipes lead to an increase in asbestos fibers in drinking water when they are first installed. People can digest these fibers in food or drinking water but the fibers have not been linked with gastrointestinal cancers in the various studies that have been carried out. However, when water from asbestos cement pipes is used to wash clothes, the asbestos fibers stick to the clothes and can be later released into the atmosphere where they can be inhaled and result in a number of respiratory illnesses.

This has led to an increase of asbestos fibers in a number of extreme indoor atmospheres where asbestos cement pipes were used to draw water into the houses. The fibers found in water from asbestos cement pipes are mostly short asbestos fibers which have been considered f little impact no public health. According to a study done by the World Health Organization in their 1993 Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality, there was little convincing evidence of carcinogenicity of ingested asbestos in a population that took water that had high asbestos fibers. Other studies in laboratories have also not come with conclusive proof to associate water from asbestos cement pipes with an increase of tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. No comprehensive proof that asbestos in asbestos cement pipes is hazardous to the heath of people and it has been concluded that there was no need to establish a health-based guideline mechanism for asbestos in drinking water. This is why the use of asbestos cement pipes has not been banned in many countries. By combining the mineral fibers of asbestos with cement, the overall product is very durable and they can last for 50 to 60 years. Other materials such as wood and plastic frail in this comparison to asbestos cement products as they cannot last this long. In addition, asbestos cement pipes are fireproof and they are very ideal for both commercial and residential building because asbestos does not burn. Therefore, they can be used in places that are prone to fire such as around electrical components or near a heat source such as a boiler in commercial buildings.

How to write a report

A report is a short, sharp, concise document which is written for a particular purpose and audience. It generally sets outs and analyses a situation or problem, often making recommendations for future action. It is a factual paper, and needs to be clear and well-structured, which may contain:

  • the record of a sequence of events
  • interpretation of the significance of these events or facts
  • evaluation of the facts or results of research presented
  • discussion of the outcomes of a decision or course of action
  • conclusions
  • recommendations

Part 1 Selecting your Topic

  1. Understand the assignment. If your teacher, professor, or boss gave your guidelines for your report, make sure you read them (and reread them). What is the assignment asking of you? Generally if you are writing a report for an elementary, middle or high school class, you will be asked to present a topic without inserting your opinion. Other assignments might ask you to persuade your audience about a certain way of perceiving your topic, or analyze a topic. Ask your teacher about any questions you might have as soon as possible.
  2. Choose a topic that interests you. Use the following questions to help generate topic ideas.
  • Do you have a strong opinion on a current social or political controversy?
  • Did you read or see a news story recently that has piqued your interest or made you angry or anxious?
  • Do you have a personal issue, problem or interest that you would like to know more about?
  • Do you have a research paper due for a class this semester?
  • Is there an aspect of a class that you are interested in learning more about?
  1. Focus on Your Topic.
  • Choose a broad topic based on the requirements of your assignment and your own interests.
  • Quickly read up on the broad topic to find the issues and controversies.
  • Now choose your focus tactic.
  • Remember that a topic will be more difficult to research if it is:
  • Very locally confined
  • Very recent
  • Broadly interdisciplinary

  1. Be Flexible. It is common to modify your topic during the research process. You can never be sure of what you may find. You may find too much and need to narrow your focus, or too little and need to broaden your focus. This is a normal part of the research process. Part 2 Researching your topic

  1. Research your topic. Divide the work into a number of tasks, develop a schedule that leaves lots of time for revision, and stick to your schedule. Choose a topic that interests you. Define it as precisely as you can before beginning your research, but be prepared to modify, adapt, and revise it as you research and write your paper.
  2. Finding Sources. Finding books and articles for your research can be quite a challenge – especially if you’ve not yet familiarized yourself with the library and its resources. If you’re not sure where to start, try looking at the library’s Resources by Subject, on the library home page. These resources include advice regarding the key resources (both print and electronic) in a subject area, written by reference librarians.

  1. Summarize Your Sources. Before you attempt to use a source in your paper, you need to be sure that you understand it. The best way to make sure that you understand a source is to summarize it. In summarizing, you accomplish a few things.

First, summarizing a source requires you to put this argument in your own language. Some of your sources might use language that puzzles you. When you summarize, you are in a sense translating an argument into language that you understand and can work with.

Summarizing also enables you to see if there is any aspect of the argument that you don’t understand. If you find yourself stumbling as you attempt to summarize, go back to the original source for clarity.

Summarizing also allows you to restate an argument in terms that are relevant to your paper. Most texts that you encounter are very complex and offer several ideas for consideration. Some of these ideas will be relevant to your topic; others will not.

Summarizing can help you in the organization process. If you’ve used ten sources in a research project, you’ve probably taken a lot of notes and have gathered several quotations for your paper. This can amount to pages and pages of text.

  1. Make Your Sources Work for You. Beginning students often make one grave mistake when they write their first academic papers: overwhelmed by what their sources have to say, they permit their papers to crumble under the weight of scholarly opinion. They end up writing not an informed argument of their own, but a rehash of what has already been said on a topic. The paper might be informative. It might also be competently written. But it does not fulfill the requirements of a good academic paper. We have said it before and we will say it again: a good academic paper must be analytical. It must be critical. It must be a well-crafted, persuasive, informed argument.

Part 3 Writing your Report

  1. Executive Summary. The executive summary or abstract, for a scientific report, is a brief summary of the contents. It’s worth writing this last, when you know the key points to draw out. It should be no more than half a page to a page in length. Remember the executive summary is designed to give busy ‘executives’ a quick summary of the contents of the report.
  2. The introduction sets out what you plan to say and provides a brief summary of the problem under discussion. It should also touch briefly on your conclusions. Your intro is where you introduce your topic and state your thesis. Your intro should be engaging but not corny–the goal should be to hook the reader so that they want to read the rest of your report. You should provide some background information on your topic and then state your thesis so that the reader knows what the report is going to be about.
  3. Report Main Body. You should split it into sections using numbered sub-headings relating to themes or areas for consideration. For each theme, you should aim to set out clearly and concisely the main issue under discussion and any areas of difficulty or disagreement. It may also include experimental results. All the information that you present should be related back to the brief and the precise subject under discussion.
  4. Conclusions and Recommendations. The conclusion sets out what inferences you draw from the information, including any experimental results. It may include recommendations, or these may be included in a separate section.

Part 3 Finalizing Your Report

  1. Read through your report from an outsider’s perspective. Does the point you are trying to make come across clearly? Does all of your evidence support your thesis? If you were someone reading your report for the first time, would you feel like you understood the topic after reading the report?
  2. Disseminating the final report. Having a second pair of eyes can be helpful to make sure your point is clear and your writing doesn’t sound awkward. Ask your helper, do you understand what I am saying in my report? Is there anything you think I should take out or add? Is there anything you would change?
  3. Supporting the implementation of recommendations made in the final report. Recommendations made in the report are implemented in a timely fashion. The recommendations should include specific timelines and deliverables. It may be useful if reviewers prepare a budget listing the main activities that need to be implemented. Each activity should be specific, achievable and linked to output or process indicators. What made you want to become a photographer?

I’ve wanted to be a professional photographer for as long as I can remember. I can’t remember the exact thing that instilled the desire in me. The desire seems to have always been there. I’ve always been mesmerized by the things that make life visually interesting and appealing. My enthusiasm for aesthetics has been with me since day one. That’s how I feel. I feel like I came out of the womb with a desire to snap photographs of everything interesting.

 

Could you imagine ever pursuing a career other than photography?

I honestly cannot. That wouldn’t feel right. When something’s right, you just know. Being a photographer feels comfortable to me. Although it gives me a sense of comfort and ease, it also keeps me on my toes. Photography is never a boring or unpredictable field. It’s always fresh. It’s constantly changing, evolving and growing. There’s simply never a dull moment. I don’t want to be anything other than a photographer and I’m 100 percent comfortable admitting that. There are definitely some other professions that seems interesting and rewarding. I can’t say that I want to go after them, though. I’d love to be a painter in Italy, but just for a day. I’d love to teach young children about art and design. Again, I’d only want to do that for a day. Photography is the only calling I have. That’s why I know I’m doing the right thing. The thought of waking up in the morning to do anything other than photography seems practically unbearable to me!

 

What do you love most about New York City?

Where do I begin? It would probably be easier for me to make a list of the very few things I don’t like about New York City. New York City is the universe to me. I adore its energy and enthusiasm. When I’m roaming free in the city, I feel so much promise and hope. I feel like anything in the world is possible. I feel like I can seize the day and take control of the planet. It’s honestly a powerful emotion. The city has a vibe that’s incomparable. I’ve been to many great places. I can honestly say, however, that nothing holds a candle to The City That Never Sleeps. That’s why it isn’t easy for me to envision working anywhere else on a permanent basis. New York City is my best friend in many ways. It’s been a loyal companion to me for a long time as well.
